Abstract

The term “artificial intelligence” (AI) refers to the idea of machines being capable of performing human tasks. It describes how technology is used to develop a software or a machine that can easily mimic human intelligence and perform specific activities. John McCarthy, a mathematician coined the term artificial intelligence in 1955, and widely recognized as the father of artificial intelligence. He chose this term to explain the potential of machines to perform tasks that can fall in the range of “intelligent” activities. In the following review article different applications of artificial intelligence in dentistry, achievements, limitations and challenges will be discussed.
